So much more than water
The big lake Kraaijenbergse Plassen, situated between Cuijk and Grave, is one of the largest water sports areas in Brabant. Activities available include sailing, surfing, swimming, canoeing, and stand-up paddleboarding. Part of the lake area serves as a natural habitat for animals and plants and is therefore not accessible to water sports enthusiasts. Easily accessible cycle and walking paths run along the shores of the Kraaijenbergse Plassen.
Natuurpoort De Bungelaer, one of the Brabant Nature Gates, is located at the hotel-restaurant of the same name.
Tip: rent a boat or SUP and go out on the water!
A battle against the water
Long ago, when the Meuse was still capricious and unpredictable, the people of the Land of Cuijk lived with a constant threat: the water. The Beerse Overlaat was no ordinary riverbed, but a controlled flood zone. When the water rose too high, the area was deliberately flooded to prevent greater disasters downstream. The inhabitants knew this could happen, but it did not mean they ever got used to it.
